A Socio-Technical System (STS) Framework for Modular Construction of Cognitive Buildings

Abstract The cognitive building provides promises if its social and technical requirements are considered holistically, but these have not been consciously explored, particularly within modular construction, which offers an unexploited opportunity. This study, therefore, aims to develop a framework for the construction of as socio-technical system ensure effective human-technology interaction, stakeholder acceptance engagement. is examined with mock-up project student smart residential in Hong Kong, similar building, adopted technique. case demonstrated that effectively ensures multi-perspectival involvement key stakeholders at design manufacturing phase produce units cleanly embedded appropriate operable technologies users facility managers before transported site. study based on single study; hence, there could be little scientific rigour providing basis generalisation results wider space. As buildings technologically advancing, future studies encouraged look other possible projects utilise principles evaluate them by adopting this study’s STS or enhanced form.
